Description
Normally, Cold Isostatic Pressing (CIP) is more simple process than Hot Isostatic Pressing(HIP). The principle is illustrated in figure below. The object to be pressed is placed in a vessel. The vessel wall must be strong enough to resist the isostatic pressure. Usually pressing is done by room temperature, and there is no need for heat resisting precautions(Special steel or water cooling) in vessel for such applications. Warm Isostatic Pressing, that is pressing at temperatures around 100°C, can also be done in standard CIP vessels. Moulds for powder pressing must be flexible enough not to disturb the isostatic pressing. The mould should be thin and made of an elastic material which is not to hard. If the material is too soft it will however be pressed into the cavities between the powder particles.
